Staining your Furniture
If you are going to stain the Home elegance furniture, make sure to sand it first. Start with medium sandpaper for the initial scrubbings then end it with a fine one. Make sure to sand evenly on the surface. To complete this step, scrub the furniture one last time using steel wool. Make sure that you get rid of any unevenness and fill any gaps or gouges with wood putty. Sealing your Home elegance table or Home elegance chair will insure that the stain will apply evenly and will not soak into the dark areas where the wood is particularly porous. After you apply a coat of sealer and it is fully dry, scrub the furniture with steel wool again. Clean off the shavings with a brush for a smooth surface. Once you have picked a stain (use an oil chart for this step, hardware stores usually have these), apply it with long brush strokes. The stain will seep into the wood and will make the item darker and darker the longer it stays on. Once you are satisfied with the darkness of the furniture, wipe the stain off with cloth. Once the stain is dry (it should take at least a day) you are ready to varnish. Mix one part varnish with four parts paint thinner. Then by using a soft paint brush, apply the mixture to the item with even strokes. Let this layer sit overnight. In the morning take steel wool and buff your item. Add another varnish solution and let it dry. You can repeat the process several more times until you are satisfied with the new look on your furniture. |
